No Space for Trans Hate
Anti-trans rhetoric impacts all of us, it is a form a hatred that harms and isolates some of the most vulnerable individuals within our society. Contrary to the experience of homelessness many cis gendered people face, homelessness and housing insecurity will look different for trans and gender diverse people.
Housing is a human right, and the ability to be one’s authentic self is a human right. A person's identity and the right to be safe is not a debate, nor should it be a source of hate.
Women’s National Housing & Homelessness Network reported that 26% of trans people have lost their housing due to discrimination and 43% reported experiencing discrimination from landlords or property managers based on gender. For trans people who can find housing, 41% reported feeling unsafe in their home and 69% reported being unable to find or maintain housing due to affordability issues.
Today (September 20th) there will be several anti-trans protests taking place in cities across the country. Additional, community members who are supporters of trans and gender diverse individuals will be hosting counterprotest to reaffirm the importance of respecting trans and gender diverse people within our community and communities across the country.
