testimonial from a single mother
“Two years ago, I had nowhere to go. I had no idea what my future had in store, being a single mom. You know, your self-esteem gets trampled when you can't take care of yourself and your child.”
“There was a lot of stress during that time. I pictured my son and I living in a not-so-great neighbourhood sharing a mattress on the floor. It's what I envisioned. With the help of Adsum, I found safe, suitable housing. It was a huge weight off my shoulders. It was the biggest relief that I didn't have to put my son through chaos. Instead, he has his own bed, his own room. We play board games. We curl up on the couch and watch movies. We’ve made a home out of it.
And it's a place I'm proud to call my home, I'm proud to bring people to. Even for me socially, having a friend over for supper, to have a place I'm not embarrassed about. It's a nice feeling to have that.”
Your Support Matters
We first opened Adsum House in 1983 and to this day, we remain grounded in our roots: to provide a safe place and support to women and families who are homeless and without resources. With ongoing and very generous support from the community, we are able to keep the doors open and our services relevant. There are many ways that you can be involved.

The Unlock Hope Project
Dozens of volunteers hung the 1,500 keys in this installation, by hand. Each key represents one of the thousands of women, youth and families Adsum for Women & Children has provided with shelter, since 1983. #UnlockHope
