What We Do.

Adsum House

Adsum House is a 17-bed emergency shelter that is available to women and gender-diverse individuals. Client Support Workers are available 24 hours a day to provide support and crisis intervention, and mediate residential issues that may arise. The on-site Social Worker supports residents in accessing community resources and finding safe, affordable housing.

The Bridge

The Bridge is an all-gender, 24-hour shelter operating in a hotel setting, funded by the Province of Nova Scotia. The shelter provides residents with two-three meals per day, occasional programming facilitated by staff and residents, medical support through Nova Scotia Health, and housing support Welcome Housing.

Adsum Court

Located in Dartmouth, Adsum Court offers long-term supportive housing with 24 independent living units. Adsum staff is on-site most weekdays to provide advocacy, referrals, group programming and individual supportive counseling.

The Alders

The Alders has 10 apartments, eight one-bedrooms and two two-bedroom units. Staff is on site a few days each week to provide advocacy, referrals, group programming and individual counseling.

The Sunflower

The Sunflower consists of 25 housing units, offering a variety of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units, and a community building. The Sunflower was designed to be low-income housing that was both beautiful, family orientated, and environmentally sustainable.

The Marigold

Adsum has recently started construction on 16 brand new housing units on the same site as The Sunflower. These new units will continue to expand our deeply affordable housing options for families and individuals.

Belle Aire

Adsum is actively completing renovations on a 4-plex which will provide affordable, secure housing for families in the HRM.

Other Properties

Adsum owns 5 condo units across the HRM that provide deeply affordable housing to individuals and families.

Shelter Diversion Support (SDS)

The Shelter Diversion Support (SDS) program works with families and parents who have children in their care. To ensure families can stay together, SDS works with hotels within the HRM to provide hotel rooms for families, while working with families and parents to find more permanent housing solutions.

Journey Home

Through the Journey Home program, staff provide wraparound community-rich services to keep African Nova Scotian families housed safely, supported, and together. Adsum is committed to developing a Housing First model that is culturally appropriate and safe to support African Nova Scotian families while building a program rooted in community.

Diverting Families

Diverting Families works directly with families and parents with children in their care who are in crisis due to homelessness or impending homelessness. We seek to address their immediate need for safe emergency housing by placing families in apartments rented by Adsum that act as emergency units.

The Rose

The Rose is designed as a transitional supportive housing model for families in central Halifax with program and office space for on-site support staff including a Social Worker, Client Support staff, a Recreational Programmer, and a Facility Manager. Each floor has designated play/common spaces for families that house various games and books.

Housing Clinic

Our housing clinic is a voicemail service open to all women, gender-diverse individuals, and families looking for housing support. It serves as a triage space allowing staff to learn more about a person’s needs, outlining resources available that could be best suited for them and supporting housing advocacy.

Alders Drop-In

Open on Mondays and Fridays, we provide drop-in services at the Alders location that includes social work support, meals, snacks, coffee, phone and computer use, shower, and laundry services for women and gender-diverse community members. The Alders Community Space and shower is accessible for those with a mobility impairment.
