Program Details

Adsum’s Housing Advocacy and Eviction Prevention (HAEP) program provides one-time-only emergency funding to eligible community members who are at risk of eviction, or to folks who are in the process of securing permanent housing.

What the HAEP Program can cover:

  • Rental arrears
  • NS Power arrears
  • Damage deposits
  • First month’s rent

What the HAEP Program cannot cover:

  • Halifax water arrears
  • Payments for homeowners
  • Moving, storage, or hotel fees
  • Ongoing or repeat requests for funding
  • Arrears unrelated to primary residence
  • Non-housing related expenses

Who is eligible for HAEP

To be eligible for Adsum’s HAEP program funding: 

  • You live in the HRM
  • You have dependents in your care most of the time OR you are 55+ and identify as a woman and/or gender-diverse
  • Your monthly household income does not exceed $2400 (net) 
  • Your situation will be sustainable moving forward (you must have an income and the incoming funds can typically keep up with your outgoing monthly payments).

Survivors of Gender-Based Violence Benefit

The HAEP team additionally supports women and gender-diverse individuals (regardless of age or household make-up) experiencing gender-based violence (GBS). Adsum is a recognized referral agency that assists individuals in applying for the Survivors of GBV Benefit through the government. For more information please contact us.
