Adsum Overview
Adsum’s mission is to lead change in ending homelessness through housing, services, and advocacy.
Our vision is that everyone has a safe and secure home.
Our work is rooted in the belief that housing must come first for people to focus on their goals, access health care, build relationships, and engage in community. We also know that no one solution fits all.
Adsum History
In 1983, Adsum House, an emergency shelter, opened its doors in response to the needs of women experiencing homelessness. Since then, we have grown from an organization providing solely emergency shelter for women in crisis to an organization that has designed, developed, and delivers affordable housing options, supports, and programs for women, families, and gender-diverse adults.
Our Impact
Adsum’s Impact
Each day, Adsum provides emergency shelter for 200 people at Adsum House and The Bridge. More than 300 people, including children, are supported in emergency units, hotel rooms, and transitional housing across HRM and 100 people live in permanent affordable housing that is owned by Adsum. Our programs and outreach services, which include housing support and eviction prevention, reach hundreds more throughout our community each year.

Our Board
Adsum is fortunate to have a visionary Board that supports our efforts to end homelessness through housing, services, and advocacy. The Board of Directors approves the organization’s annual budget and sets rigorous reporting and monitoring requirements for the executive director.
