At Adsum, volunteers play a key role in our services. From fundraising to household operations, we rely on volunteers to support us in a variety of capacities.

Weekly/ Monthly Volunteer Opportunities with Adsum House

Lunch or Dinner Preparation Volunteer  - The menu is planned in advance to feed up to 20 people and all of the ingredients will be ready for you when you arrive. Volunteers assist with the preparation of lunches, dinners and weekend brunches.
Lunch Prep is 10:00-12:00 and Dinner Prep is 3:00-5:00

Meals and Baking  - Prepare meals or baked goods at home and donate for use in specific meals. Always nice to plan for these items if you can call ahead where possible to 902-423-4443.

Clothing Room Organizer  - DéjàVu operates like a regular clothing store – except the items are donated and completely free of charge! It is located at Adsum House, but is open to the public. Volunteers are needed to organize donations, coordinate outfits and help clients accessorize.
Open Mon-Thur at 1:00-3:00

Sorting Donations - Clothing, Toys and Household room.  We require people to organize these items and provide an ongoing inventory of what is in stock, and what we need.

Cleaning  - Once a week projects like Laundry Room or other Light Housekeeping. This is also a great group project to do a good Spring Cleaning anytime of the year.

Adsum offers flexible scheduling and an opportunity for you to use your talents to make a difference in the community.  Please fill out our volunteer application below and tell us about yourself and your volunteer interests. Volunteer Orientations take place once a month for new applicants.

Other Opportunities

Group Maintenance Projects (All locations) -  gardening, painting, cleaning etc. This can incorporate large groups of volunteers and be team building exercises.

Special Event/Fundraising Volunteers - Much of Adsum's operations depend on the success of our fundraising events like the Successful Canadian Women's Dinner, Mystery Art Show & Sale, Females Fore Females Golf Day and new events. If you are interested in sitting on an event planning committee or assisting with tasks at one of our annual events please contact

Development Workshops for Clients (Adsum House, Centre, Court and Alders) planned with our Programming staff, around various topics based on your skills such as resume writing, tax preparation, goal setting, arts and crafts, personal care services, fitness classes etc.
